AHI Architectural Heritage Intervention

Located within some of the world’s most important, surviving buildings from the Industrial Revolution, the new gallery and entrance revitalised the vaulted undercroft of the historic railway. Full-height fiberglass panels subtly illuminate the cast-iron and brick jack-arch structures, alleviating the visual weight of the Victorian infrastructure. A spacious, ramped entrance provides step-free access and improves collections management, enabling the display of larger objects. The gallery celebrates the industrial character of the site, showcasing its restored cast-iron and brick structure. The space allows visitors to experience the grandeur of the original warehouse while engaging with modern exhibitions. Sustainability measures include passive environmental design to reduce lifecycle costs and carbon emissions. Hygroscopic materials in the walls reduce the need for dehumidification, and low-energy lighting enhances the exhibition environment.
