Castle of Osma

Castle of Osma

The Castle of Osma, initially only valued as a romantic ruin in the landscape, has become an extraordinary documentary piece of the history of the border, being project and work the instrument for its re-reading and the way to make it legible to the visitor. The main objective is the preservation and legibility of the documentary values, recovery of the possibilities of visitation and understanding of the values of its implantation in the territory. The excavation has made possible to locate the doors of the outer barrier, recover the original levels, open the water outlets, document a medieval necropolis, some 14th CE barracks and the traces of the county towers whose Roman ashlars were stolen again for the foundations of the cathedral. The intervention carefully respected the stratigraphic reading of its masonry, making it itself legible without stridency, consolidating the 10thCE gates, giving continuity to the visitor pathways and resolving the closure of the castle with wooden structures in the gaps of the stolen towers
