"Ilha", a model that originated in the 18th c. and with a great push from the mid 19th c. with the Industrial Revolution and the progress of the rural world to cities, has a positive contribution to a vision of the future of the contemporary city. If the paradigm of the city of the future is for an intense one, because it makes sense, then, for it to be sustainable, it must be green, clean, close, mixed both socially and functionally. The island is a model that can correspond to the perfection of its urban profile, indicating its own identity, not indifferent, potentiating proximity, compact, strict in the resources. Porto cannot waste the urban model of the islands, that is, the promotion of those that are worth recovering, as well as replicate and elaborate the model in future new interventions. The approach to the Project is based on the privilege of having lived for almost two years in BelaVista. More than an external view of the problem, this intense experience allowed us to add another perspective of proximity and belonging to the place.
